Director and Secretary
Joy and her husband Scott prayed soberly about the opportunity to serve on the GSM board of directors. They were already familiar with the ministry, having sponsored Swazi children for several years. But they also are the kind of people who take their commitments seriously. The rest of the board is so grateful that they both believed God was giving them the go-ahead to serve with us. Joy has been an amazing addition with her secretarial skills, taking a huge burden off of others who don't necessarily share her gift for that! Joy's big heart shows up in everything she does. We're blessed to have her and Scott on board!
Pattie Yates Belden Director
Pattie has vast experience as a court mediator, foster parent recruiter, parent/adolescent dispute resolution counselor, teaching prospective foster and adoptive parents, family support worker for family reintegration, and an advocate for sexual assault and domestic violence, to name just a few. She has raised funds for many projects and nonprofits, as well as coordinating countless special events. And oh, boy, can she ever cook! (Which she has done for many of our fundraisers!) She has plenty of experience after raising six children (including Becky) and loving on over 80 grandchildren and great-grandchildren from her home in Hutchinson, KS. She is one of our founding directors.
Our Board of Directors
We are thankful for our committed, experienced board that allow us to operate with accountability, affirming our compliance with purposes and practices that promote integrity. God has put together an
amazing group of people;
we hope you enjoy this glimpse into their hearts.
and Executive Director
Becky's desire to teach showed up early in life when she would line up her five younger siblings and give them spelling words and math problems to solve. Her first mission trip was to a reservation in Arizona with her youth group, where they taught Vacation Bible School. Sure enough, she earned her degree in elementary education, with an emphasis in English and music. The call to help children carried over into her marriage; she and her husband Tracy adopted four children in addition to rearing four birth kids. All ten of them have been on other mission trips. But as a singer/songwriter, an author, a speaker, and a certified Christian lay counselor--and even as they open their home to guests in their bed and breakfast in Buhler, KS--Becky knows our mission field is wherever we put our feet. And one of her greatest joys is sharing Jesus with her grandchildren--25 and counting!
Co-Founder and Director
Tracy holds a three-year certificate of completion from a Bible college and serves as a lead man in his department as a CNC operator/machinist. The Lord put the call in his heart over 30 years ago that he would be a father to many more than he could see at the time. He's served with Becky on mission trips to inner-city Chicago, Mexico, and Africa. But he had no idea how God would fulfill that calling by allowing him to be a father figure to the children of Swaziland, who have captured his heart.
Jessica is the wife of Justin, and mom to Jaiden and Jaxton Gillette. She is an associate professor of Health and Physical Education at Bethel Collete in North Newton, KS, and a certified athletic trainer. Jessica grew up in Buhler, and the Gillette family now reside in the country between Buhler and Hutchinson. Justin and Jessica are members of CrossPoint Church, where they participate in children's ministry,Sunday school, and teaching premarital counseling. The Gillette family is also honored to sponsor a young man in Swaziland named Gcina through Grand Staff Ministries.
Director and Treasurer
Rod lives to serve others. In addition to serving as a GSM board member, he has served on the board of a summer camp ministry and his church's mission/evangelism team. These leadership positions allow Rod to encourage others to serve as an outreach of their Christian faith. Rod and his wife, Teri, live in Inman, Kansas, where they raised their three children. Each of these children are married and raising a family of their own. Of all the responsibilities God entrusts to Rod, he cherishes his family the most. The title of "Grandpa" is very important to him, and he enjoys spending time with his grandkids--building projects or just playing. Rod has taught in the public school system for over thirty years.
Janie's picture here shows her checking out sustainability projects in Swaziland in January of 2015, when she accompanied Becky and a team to serve the children. She has a huge heart of compassion and knows how to bring practical solutions to otherwise troubling situations. She helps her husband Randy on their farm in Inman, Kansas, and cooks for the custom-cutting crew spring through fall. She's a faithful member of Bethel Mennonite Church in Inman.
Scott and his wife Joy have shown their huge hearts for missions and Grand Staff Ministries for years. They not only have sponsored Swazi children, enabling them to attend school, but they've also been generous donors to our ministry fundraising event held every spring. They've been active with exchange students for several years, too, showing how much they care for young people. Scott has proven to have a solid understanding of procedures, plus lots of experience on boards, making him a valuable resource when we have questions and decisions to make. We're honored to have them both on the GSM team!
