Melo (Patricia)

Shepherd's Care Home
Sipete, eSwatini

DOB: May 25, 2013
Elementary Student

Patricia (Melo is her Swazi name) and her sister Thabile were brought to Shepherd's Care by social welfare.

Their mother abandoned them when Patricia was two years old.

Their father locked them in the house alone all day without food or water.

He sometimes fed Patricia, but he often withheld food from Thabile and forced her to eat her own feces and drink her urine.

Both girls were severely malnourished and emotionally distraught from abandonment, neglect, and all kinds of abuse.

Neither had been in school.

Praise God, Patricia is thriving now! She excelled at Little Lambs Preschool because of her love of learning. And she was over the moon about going to 1st grade at the same school where the "big girls" attend.

The simplest things like having her physical needs met and warm affection have gone a long ways towards showing her how very much she is loved.  On several occasions we've noticed how perceptive she is.  We're so thankful we have the opportunity to watch that trait unfold in her life!
